Transalpine run 2025: Follow Markus Sauer – a T1D athlete taking on the Alps
This September, the rugged trails of the Alps will echo with determination and resilience as 300 teams of mountain runners attempt to complete the transalpine run stage race. Over the course of 7 gruelling days, 243km and 15,135 metres of elevation, Markus Sauer – an amateur athlete living with type 1 diabetes - will tackle one of the most demanding trail running events in the world – the transalpine run 2025.

Together with his race partner Peter, Markus will cross multiple alpine passes, bridging valleys and summits from Austria to Italy, in a race that tests more than just physical endurance – it tests heart, team spirit, and self-belief.
Meet Markus – T1D athlete adventurer
Markus has been living with Type 1 diabetes for more than 10 years, but that has never stopped him from setting big goals and chasing them across mountains and races on his two feet. Markus uses the automated insulin delivery (AID) system myLoop, powered by CamAPS FX algorithm to support his glucose management. Over the years, myLoop powered by CamAPS FX, has become a key partner in keeping him safe and balanced through multiple races and solo adventures.
